Description
Dolomitic lime (calcium magnesium carbonate, CaMg(CO₃)₂) offers everything calcitic lime does — plus the added benefit of magnesium, a nutrient that is frequently deficient in East African soils, particularly in high-rainfall areas where it is easily leached.
Magnesium is the central atom in chlorophyll, making it essential for photosynthesis, energy transfer, and the uptake of phosphorus. Magnesium deficiency shows up as yellowing between leaf veins (interveinal chlorosis) and leads to poor grain fill, weak plants, and reduced yields. If your soil is both acidic and magnesium-deficient, dolomitic lime is your most efficient single-product solution.
Key Benefits:
- Raises soil pH and neutralises acidity (same mechanism as calcitic lime)
- Simultaneously corrects magnesium deficiency
- Improves chlorophyll production and photosynthesis
- Enhances phosphorus uptake efficiency
- Cost-effective alternative to applying lime and magnesium separately
- Improves overall soil structure and biological activity
When to choose dolomitic over calcitic lime: If a soil test shows low pH and low magnesium (Mg < 60 ppm or Ca:Mg ratio above 8:1), dolomitic lime is the preferred choice.
Recommended crops: Tea, maize, vegetables, potatoes, coffee, pyrethrum, and pasture grasses.
Application rate: 1–3 tonnes per acre based on soil test results. Our agronomists can interpret your soil test and recommend the right product and rate.
Packaging: 50kg bags | Bulk orders available for cooperatives and large farms.
